Richly decorated vase with accentuated shoulder and a narrow neck
This so-called ‘Kraak porcelain’ vase was made during the Chinese Wanli period (1573-1619) and is richly decorated with motives in underglaze blue. A round foot rim carries the ovoid body, which forms a pronounced shoulder with a short neck.
The interior and the base are glazed in white. Scholars and boys in a continuous landscape adorned the entire wall in a fine freely painted blue. Lappets of floral sprigs and a scale pattern also can be found on the shoulder.
The Wanli six-character mark is visible in a double-circle in the center of the base and the vase comes in new fitted brocade box.
