rising from a flat base to broad rounded shoulders and surmounted by a short upright neck with wide rolled mouthrim, applied inside and out with a layer of whitish-gray slip and under a transparent glaze, the base unglazed revealing the white body, the domed cover similarly glazed, set with a bud-shaped finial, stand (3). 

NotesIt is rare to find a jar and cover of this large size.  See a related vase also with its cover, of slightly smaller size, from the Idemitsu Museum of Arts, illustrated in Great Ceramics Collection - White Ceramics, Tokyo, 1975, pl. 11; and another in the Meiyintang Collection, illustrated in Regina Krahl, Chinese Ceramics from the Meiyintang Collection, London, vol. 1, 1994, no. 228.
