Large, Rare Non-nacreous Clam Pearl, Tridacna sp., Coastal waters of the Phillippines
Large, Rare Non-nacreous Clam Pearl, Tridacna sp., Coastal waters of the Phillippines. Estimate: $US$ 10,000 - 15,000 (€8,900 - 13,000). Photo: Bonhams.
This large, snowy white non-nacreous pearl originates from a species of giant clam perfectly bouton-shaped and of generous proportions which widen to a double dome. The pearl is not only rare for its size, and perfection of symmetry, but also for its minute flame pattern iridescence that covers the entire surface of the pearl. This is an exceptional offering of its type.
