LYON - Cette collection inédite, provenant d’un grand créateur de mode, réunit une centaine de pièces de la maison DIOR et retrace les grandes heures de la marque de l’avenue Montaigne. Cet ensemble présente de rares modèles de défilé Haute-Couture de Gianfranco Ferré qui furent portés par les plus grands mannequins de l’époque ainsi que les collections Prêt- à-Porter emblématiques de John Galliano dont certaines firent scandale à l’instar de la collection Les Prostituées de l’avenue Montaigne.

La Haute Couture par Gianfranco-Ferré chez DIOR (1989-1996)

Gianfranco Ferré est l’une des plus grandes signatures de la mode. Nommé en 1989 par Bernard Arnault à la tête de la direction artistique de DIOR, il recevra le Dé d’Or l’année suivante. Pendant 8 ans, les créations de celui que l’on qualifia d’ « architecte de la mode », seront portées par les mannequins les plus célèbres de l’époque, Carla Bruni, Estelle Lefebure, Beverly, Nadja Avermann, Shalom... Une dizaine des somptueuses pièces des collections 1995/1996, dont certaines sont brodées par Lesage, Montex et Muller, sera proposée aux enchères par Ivoire Lyon le 9 octobre.

Une pièce historique de la maison Dior

Dans la collection figure une pièce historique de l’histoire de la maison DIOR : une paire d’escarpins Delman réalisée pour DIOR en 1953/1955.

Christian Dior rencontre pour la première fois Roger Vivier lors d’une soirée parisienne et souhaite absolument qu’il rejoigne son équipe de designers de chaussures. Ce dernier ayant passé un contrat d’exclusivité avec la marque américaine Herman Delman, Christian Dior signe un contrat de 5 ans avec Herman Delman en 1953 et pendant deux ans, les chaussures créées par Roger Vivier porteront les noms de Delman et de Christian Dior, comme on peut le constater sur cette paire d’escarpins.

Les collections emblématiques de John Galliano chez DIOR (1997/2011)

John Galliano succède à Gianfranco Ferré en 1996 avant de devenir directeur artistique de l'ensemble des lignes féminines de Dior en 1999 et de prendre en charge la responsabilité de l'image globale de la griffe, communication incluse. Il valorisera notamment le patrimoine historique de la marque en piochant dans les archives de la maison et propulsera Dior au rang de la marque la plus « hype » du monde. Années après années, il multiplie le chiffre d’affaires par 4 et bouleverse la Maison détenue par Bernard Arnault, qui commente : « Lorsque je suis arrivé chez Dior, c'étaient les mères qui y amenaient leurs filles ; à présent, c'est l'inverse ».

Les collections les plus emblématiques sont représentées dans ce rare ensemble : Wallpaper, Mao, Geisha, Marlene Dietrich, Cocteau. Chaque défilé est extravagant et présenté comme une histoire, un voyage raconté par le couturier provocateur. La collection printemps/été 2000, avec son défilé de « clochards » rend un hommage luxueux et romantique à l’ingéniosité que les plus déshérités déploient pour se vêtir. La collection « Les prostituées de l’avenue Montaigne» crée un style sans équivoque que l’on va bientôt surnommer le porno-chic et qui a scandalisé plus d’un fidèle de la marque.

A fashion designer’s personal collection Dior Couture and Ready-to-Wear

This never-before-seen collection belonging to a major fashion designer consists of a hundred pieces representing highlights from the history of the famous Avenue Montaigne-based house of Dior. It includes rare pieces from the Gianfranco Ferré couture show, which were worn by top models of the era, along with iconic John Galliano Ready-to-Wear collections, some of which, like the Avenue Montaigne Prostitutes show, created a scandal.

Haute Couture by Gianfranco Ferré for Dior (1989-96)
Gianfranco Ferré, one of the greatest names in fashion, was appointed artistic director of Dior by Bernard Arnault in 1989 and won the Dé d’Or the following year. For eight years, the designs of the man known as the “architect of fashion” were worn by the most famous models of the time, among them Carla Bruni, Estelle Lefebure, Beverly, Nadja Avermann and Shalom. A dozen magnificent pieces from the 1995-96 collections, some of them embroidered by Lesage, Montex and Muller, will be offered at auction by Ivoire Lyon on October 9.

The collection includes a historic piece from the house of Dior: a pair of Delman shoes made for Dior in 1953-55.

Christian Dior met Roger Vivier for the first time at a party in Paris and asked him to join his team of shoe designers. Since Vivier had an exclusive contract with the American brand Herman Delman, Dior signed a five-year contract with Delman in 1953. For two years, the shoes designed by Roger Vivier bore the names Delman and Christian Dior, as can be seen on this pair of pumps.

John Galliano’s iconic collections for DIOR (1997/2011)
John Galliano succeeded Gianfranco Ferré in 1996 and became artistic director of all Dior’s women’s lines in 1999, taking on responsibility for the brand’s global image, including advertising. He revived the Dior legacy by drawing on the house’s archives, in the process transforming it into the world’s hottest label. Every year, he increased revenue fourfold, turning the house owned by Bernard Arnault upside-down. “When I arrived at Dior,” said Arnault, “it was the mothers who brought their daughters; now it’s the opposite.”

The most famous collections are represented in this rare collection, including Wallpaper, Mao, Geisha, Marlene Dietrich and Cocteau. Each extravagant show was presented as a story, a journey narrated by the provocative designer. The Spring/Summer 2000 collection, with its parade of “bums,” paid luxurious, romantic tribute to the ingenuity shown by street people when clothing themselves. The Avenue Montaigne Prostitutes collection created an explicit style that was quickly dubbed porno-chic, outraging more than one of the house’s loyal fans.
