A fine, ten-lobed, small Qingbai dish, China, Northern Song dynasty (960-1127), 11th century

6

A fine, ten-lobed, small Qingbai dish, China, Northern Song dynasty (960-1127), 11th century, Qingbai ware from Jingdezhen, province Jiangxi, probably from the Hutian kilns. Estimate 1500/2000 €. Unsold. Photo Nagel

The thinly potted and elegantly shaped, small and twelve-lobed dish has rounded, petal-shaped sides and a flat, unglazed base without a foot, which is orange coloured with a brown ring during the firing. The slightly translucent body is, except the base, allover covered by a delicate, blue-tinged glaze. Apart one tiny chip at the rim with a short related hairline in good condition, diam.: 13,9 cm.

Provenance: German private collection

Compare: Lo, Kai-Yin (ed.), Bright as Silver, White as Snow. Chinese white ceramics from late Tang to Yuan dynasty, Yunmingtang, Hong Kong 1998, no. 37, a set of four much smaller (diam. 6,8 cm), equally twelve-lobed Qingbai dishes with rounded, petal-shaped sides and flat base without a foot.
