Just when Porschephiles thought the 356 had reached perfection in the “A” coupes and convertibles, in September 1959 the Frankfurt Auto Show opened to reveal an extensively revised new Porsche, the 356B. The Erwin Kommenda-designed body, built by longtime Porsche associates Karosseriesfabrik Reutter & Co., featured new front styling with higher, almost straight-edged fenders, more vertical headlights and a larger front bumper located higher for better crash protection. A chrome grab handle appeared on the front bonnet between new parking lamps located at the ends of the front air inlets. Beneath this new skin were typical evolutionary improvements to the brakes, synchromesh, suspension and interior. In 1962 the 356B model received changes known collectively as the T6 modifications, involving the addition of twin engine cover grilles, an external gas filler lid on the right front fender and larger windows. These many developments constitute this brilliantly restored 1962 Porsche 356B with T6 Reutter coachwork. With just 537 miles since the completion of a comprehensive restoration, this is a beautifully finished example boasting Signal Red paint with a Black Haartz cloth cabriolet top and Black leather seats. This 356B sports a rebuilt engine, transmission, new paint on the body and under carriage and a new soft top. It also features restored square weave carpet, new brakes, new brake cylinders and new seals. Fitted with a chromed luggage rack, chromed wheels and bumper guards, Leston wood-rimmed steering wheel and Highway Hi Fi radio, this is a superb iteration of the transformative 356B.
