SAN ANTONIO, TX.- Ruiz-Healy Art will participate in FOTOSEPTIEMBRE USA International Photography Festival and will present The Wandering Flight a solo exhibition of new works by internationally renowned artist Cecilia Paredes.

Born in Lima, Peru, Paredes currently works and lives between Philadelphia, PA and Lima, Peru. She studied fine Arts at the Catholic University of Lima, Cambridge Arts and Crafts School in England, and the Accademia del Nudo in Roma in Italy.

The Wandering Flight tells the story of the desire to fly. The narrative begins with a place to arrive—a port—here the character can dwell in search of relevance. Camouflaged within the surroundings, the character inhabits a perfect symbiotic realm.

The exhibition’s flight narrative continues with four large format tapestries made out of feathers. The artist dyed common feathers to set them ablaze with colors in these arrangements. As Simon Flores states, “The use of the feathers and the wings is closely related with the idea of rebellion and freedom.

Cecilia Paredes, En tus alturas. Photo performance, edition of 7, 2014, 45 x 45".

Cecilia Paredes is well-known for her “photo performances”. She incorporates herself into her photographs and blends her contours into patterns of the surrounding environment. She covers her body in repetitive forms that are found in the landscape of fabric from which she emerges. Paredes states, “I think that in these works, aesthetics bind with the anthropologic in order to register fragments of personal and social memory.” Through these works, Paredes is building her own identity in relation to the part of the world where she lives and raises the question of how our environment influences who we are. In her photographs she is so immersed in her surroundings that we can hardly tell where her body begins and ends.
