Wine jug in the form of a lobster, Wanli period, c. 1550 - c. 1600
Wine jug in the form of a lobster, Wanli period, c. 1550 - c. 1600, porcelain, h 19cm × w 7.5cm × l 5.2cm. AK-RAK-1973-1. Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam.
Wine jug on unglazed bottom. The can has the shape of a lotus having thereon a lobster situated in a base of waves with carps in relief. The eyes of the lobster are movable. The handle and the spout are formed by the lotus , an opening on the back of the lobster in the form of a lotus button. The lid on the opening has the shape of a lotus leaf thereon with a frog and a bayonet fitting. Decorated in 'email sur biscuit ' in the colors yellow, green and brown.
