The conical white-rimmed bowl stands on a short foot ring, and is covered on the inside and out with a lustrous black glaze stopping just above the foot, exposing the pale grey stoneware body, all below a neat wide band of white glaze around the rim; the Jizhou bowl is painted in a cream colour with ruyi-heads surrounding a central flowerhead on the interior simulating tixi lacquer, on the exterior with russet specks simulating tortoise shell, all against a dark brown glaze; the foot is unglazed revealing the buff body, box.
