The ovoid body is painted in delicate shades of blue depicting a large pheasant perched on a jagged rock amidst clusters of peony blossoms and bamboo stems, all between double-line borders, below a band of pendent lappets on the neck. The base is unglazed, Japanese wood box.
Provenance: A Japanese private collection, acquired in the 1940s.
