Lot 136. An Important Belle Époque 10.94 carats Burmese sapphire and diamond ring, Tiffany & Co., circa 1910. Estimate US$ 100,000 - 150,000 (€88,000 - 130,000). Photo: Bonhams.

centering an oval mixed-cut sapphire, weighing 10.94 carats, within a pavé-set diamond surround and ornate openwork diamond-set mount; signed Tiffany & Co.; mounted in platinum; size 8 3/4

Accompanied by AGL report # CS 1073139, dated January 29, 2016, stating the sapphire as: Burma (Myanmar) origin, no indications of heat or clarity enhancement.

NoteThis elegant Belle Époque sapphire and diamond ring reflects the amalgamation of beauty, quality and design, for which Tiffany & Company was renowned, at the turn of the century. Inspired by the French late 18th century jewelry designs, Tiffany offered their clients creations of platinum and diamonds offset with colored gemstones of the finest quality. It was Tiffany's gemologist, George Kunz, in the early 1900's who, amongst many of his noteworthy and important contributions, was instrumental for procuring some of the most beautiful and rare gemstones available in the world.

This Burmese sapphire exhibits superb liveliness and rich color, combined with exceptional clarity, exemplifying all of the desirable qualities that define an important stone.
