Note: "The described ruby of 7.029 carats exhibits a highly attractive and saturated colour, combined by a excellent purity, rarely encountered in rubies from Burma. Based on these exceptional qualities, this gem has been named 'The Emperor Ruby'. The few tiny inclusions found by microscopic inspection represent the hallmarks of rubies from the classical ruby mines in the Mogok valley in Burma (Myanmar), well known for its wealth in gems since historic times. Its attractive saturated colour - poetically also referred to as 'pigeon blood red' - is due to a combination of well-balanced trace elements in this gemstone, characteristic for the finest rubies from Mogok".
Excerpt from the SSEF appendix letter
Burmese rubies have long been considered as the most desirable rubies in the world and the crimson glow that very fine examples possess merit the descriptive term of 'pigeon blood' for their high colour intensity. The famed pigeon blood rubies occur in the deposits from the legendary Mogok Valley, in the Katha district, north east of Mandalay. Famous for its rare combination of rich colour intensity and red UV-fluorescence, Mogok rubies also exhibit a velvety softness caused by the tiny needle inclusions which scatter light throughout the stone. Of all the locations in which rubies are found, the Mogok region is renowned for producing the distinctive intense red colours and bright red fiery brilliance, which are the benchmark by which all fine rubies are judged. Exceptional untreated rubies from Mogok over five carats are a true rarity in the market. 'The Emperor Ruby' is exceptional on every level, from its pigeon blood colour to its outstanding purity, it can be considered as a treasure of nature.
