the thinly potted rounded sides rising from a short straight foot to an everted rim, finely painted on the exterior with two birds in flight and another amongst foliage beside lotus with red and brown fronds growing in a lotus pool, the interior glazed white, the base inscribed with a six-character reign mark within a double circle in underglaze blue.

Note: A closely related Kangxi marked bowl with the same decoration, in the de Young Museum, San Francisco, is illustrated in D'Argencé, Chinese Ceramics in the Avery Brundage Collection, San Francisco, 1967, pl. LXVII (A). See also a similar bowl sold in these rooms, 14th December 1982, lot 229 and sold again at Christie's New York, 2nd June 1989, lot 61.
