Lot 3319. A rare blue and white 'immortals' bowl, Jiajing six-character mark within a double circle and of the period (1522-1566). Estimate HK$90,000 – HK$150,000 ($11,640 - $19,401). Photo Christie's Image Ltd 2016.

The bell-shaped bowl is finely painted on the exterior with a continuous scene depicting an immortal within a pavilion while approached by his attendant carrying a qin, enveloped by billowing clouds against rocky outcrops rising out of cresting waves, all below a band of demi-florettes at the mouth rim. The centre of the interior is painted with a double-line roundel enclosing flower heads floating on waves. 5 1/8 in. (13 cm.) diam.

NoteCompare to a Jiajing-marked bowl of similar design in the Shanghai Museum, and another in the Tianminlou Collection.
