Lot 10. A Longquan celadon-glazed small wine ewer, Song dynasty (960-1279). Photo Christie's Image Ltd 2016
The peach-shaped ewer is decorated to both sides with carved floral decoration. 3 7/8 in. (10 cm.) high. Estimation: USD 1,000 - 2,000
Notes: The rich green colour of celadon glazes are unmistakably inspired by the lustrous tone of green jade. The colour is produced by firing a glaze with iron oxide in a reducing environment.
Longquan wares began in the Song Dynasty (960-1279) and continued into the Yuan dynasty (1279-1368) and the following Ming dynasty (1368-1644). They were not only popular within China, but also formed a large part of the trade network in the Ming dynasty and can be found in Asia, Africa and even Europe.
