Lot 966. A rare glazed bowl and cover with cut-out decoration, Qianlong six-character seal marks in underglaze blue and of the period (1736-1795). Estimate USD 60,000 - USD 80,000. Price realised USD 197,000Photo Christie's Image Ltd 2016.

The bowl is finely potted with deep, rounded sides rising to a slightly everted rim. The sides are decorated with a delicate cut-out band of flower sprays and covered inside and out with a clear glaze that fills in the cut-out design and ends in a neat line at the edge of the foot. The domed cover is similarly decorated. 4 ¼ in. (10.9 cm.) diam.

Notes: A Qianlong-marked bowl of similar size with related decoration, in the Palace Museum Collection, is illustrated in Selected Porcelains of the Flourishing Qing Dynasty at the Palace Museum, Beijing, 1994, p. 362, pl. 99. Another similar bowl was sold at Christie's New York, 21-22 March 2013, lot 1501.
