Raised on four feet in the shape of brackets, each face is painted with a vigorous scroll flower whose stem supports a continuous yellow flower open to the center, three other profile purple flowers and purple buds, red, gray and yellow; the smooth edge is a band decorated with pumpkins double, leaves and red iron colored bats; glazes are surrounded by blue borders below deck, inside there are four vertical supports; each one on the bottom has a hole for water drainage and have the pot rests in rosewood; 17 x 20 x 20 cm.

Raised on bracket supports, each side is painted with a leafy, scrolling flower stem bearing a yellow blossom in the center and three mauve blossoms shown in profile as well as yellow, mauve and iron-red buds. A band of fruiting gourd vine interspersed with iron-red bats is on the flat rim, and all is within blue line borders. The interior has vertical struts and is covered with a wash of clear glaze, and a drainage hole is in the center of the base. 7 7/8 in. (20 cm.) square, two boxes (2)

Provenance: The Rende Zhai (House of Benevolent Learning) Collection, 1949-1970s. 

Note: A pair of similar jardinières was sold at Christie's New York, 19 September 1996, lot 325.

Together with the jardinieres torque is present the original certificate of Oriental Artland of May 12, 1960 in Hong Kong, which certifies that on that date the object, with the description and the photo attached, is over a hundred years.
