The vase is decorated with various scenes enclosed within panels including a buffalo in a garden setting by a pavilion, fishermen in a river landscape, scholars objects and lingzhifungus, rocks and bamboo. 15 ¼ in. (38.5 cm.) high.
Provenance: Collection of Lafcadio Hearn (1850-1904), and then by descent.
Note: Lafcadio Hearn was a renowned international writer and Professor of English Literature at the Imperial University of Tokyo. He married and settled in Japan and adopted Japanese citizenship together with the name Koizumi Yakumo.
