Length: 15cm

A stoneware rectangular pillow with concave top and tall tapered body. The top and sides are decorated in iron oxide brown and rust colored abstracted floral depictions, which stream to pleasing effect. The glaze and decoration stop about 1 cm above the bottom, which is unglazed, revealing a white porcelaineous stoneware body, which is flat, and has an impressed cloth pattern. Some glaze fritting at edges, and a chip on the top with associated three-way hairline crack.

A similar example is published in The Complete Works of Chinese Ceramics, Vol. 8. pl. 210, Shanghai 1999. Another is featured in “Ceramic Finds from Jingdezhen Kilns”, University of Hong Kong, 1992. pl. 13, and dated as Five Dynasties.
