of circular form, the shallow rounded sides rising from a short foot to a thickly rolled rim, deeply carved through black and red lacquer layers with two rows of ruyi-shaped cloud scrolls enclosing a five-pointed star in the centre, the exterior similarly decorated with a foliate scroll, the base lacquered brown, Japanese wood box.
