Note: The design on the present bowl is in direct continuation to similar bowls produced during the Qianlong reign, drawing inspiration from similarly decorated bowls made in the Jiajing reign period; the popularity of the design is further demonstrated in their production in the Guangxu period; see The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum: Miscellaneous Enamelled Porcelains Plain Tricoloured Porcelains, Shanghai, 2009, pls.86, 108, 113 and 119.
