Fine emerald and diamond ring
Lot 320. Fine 11.03 carats Colombian emerald and diamond ring. Estimate 205,000 — 305,000 CHF. Photo: Sotheby's
Set with a step-cut emerald weighing 11.03 carats, between triangular diamond shoulders, size 481/2, Harry Winston, unsigned, maker's marks for Jacques Timey.
Accompanied by SSEF report no. 89012, stating that the nine emeralds are of Colombian origin, three with a minor amount of oil in fissures and six with a moderate amount of oil in fissures.
The few tiny inclusions found by microscopic examination represent the hallmarks of Colombian emeralds from the famous mining areas Muzo, Coscuez, and Chivor, all located in the green foothills of the Cordillera Oriental in the Colombian Andes. Its attractive and saturated green colour is due to a combination of well-balanced trace elements in the stone, which are typical and characteristic for the finest emeralds of Colombia.
In addition to these qualities, this emerald shows no indications of clarity modification in fissures at the time of testing, which is a further sign of rarity".
