The bowl is delicately enamelled to one side depicting a scholar seated in a rickshaw, gazing at the landscape beyond, while the rickshaw puller behind takes a rest. The scene takes inspiration from the poem ‘Shanxing’ (Mountain Stroll) by the Tang-dynasty poet Du Mu (803-circa 852).
