Two amber altars for private devotion, Northeast German, probably Gdansk, c. 1680. Amber, ivory, glass, wooden core, Height 51 cm. © Art Chamber Georg Laue Both amber altars are worked in the round in the incrustation technique combining amber cabochons (partly adorned with intaglio on the backside) and ivory carvings of high quality. Comparable amber works at the Kunstkammer of castle Rosenborg in Copenhagen and in the Treasury of the Munich Residenz.
