CONCORD, MASS.- Lacoste Gallery introduces the celebrated Chinese ceramic artist and painter Bai Ming to the USA. The exhibition BAI MING: SOLO November 11 – December 2, 2017 features over 50 porcelain works, paintings and drawings. Bai Ming is an artist with an illustrious art career in Asia and Europe. His recent successful retrospectives were at the Museum of Asian Art, Paris and the Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology (MAAT), Lisbon. In 1998, he exhibited alongside Picasso in a two person exhibition at Taipei International Art Fair titled “Vallauris in France & Jingdezhen in China”. 

Born near Jingdezhen, the birthplace of porcelain, Mr. Bai has contributed to the renewal and revival of contemporary Chinese ceramics while introducing it to a new audience worldwide. His paintings on clay are abstractions with free brush strokes. He uses dots and lines on his works referencing western art thus bridging the two cultures. The work Time1 encapsulates his modern approach in painting on traditional vessel. The piece Lines Flow to Mountain2 shows Bai’s use of continuous lines to make an abstract painting and Between Ceramics and Stone3, an abstract sculpture references nature and scholar rocks in a man-made object. 

Bai graduated from the Fine Art School in Beijing and currently serves as the Director of Ceramic Art Department at University of Tsinghua, Beijing. He works with both ceramics and paintings and is an important Chinese artist after the ‘opening’ of China in the late 1980s. He was awarded the Gold Prize at The Invitational Exhibition of China Young Ceramic Artist and for his Contribution to Promotion of the Contemporary Ceramic Art of China in the Great Hall of the People. He has published 14 books regarding his own personal work and collections. He also published 11 series of books for a total of 28 volumes.
