Provenance: Spink & Son, Ltd., London (label)
Note: The present lot is superbly carved in high relief with three sinuous chilong clambering over the well-hollowed globular vessel. The dynamic movement of the dragons mirrors the swirling waves underneath, embracing the round form of the water pot made for the scholar's desk.
Compare two related pale green jade chilong water pots, Ming dynasty, illustrated in Compendium of Collections in the Palace Museum: Jade 6-7 Ming Dynasty, Beijing, 2011, vol.6, no.40, and vol.7, no.250.
