Lot 104. A ‘faux bamboo’ brush pot, 19th century; 3 ½ in. (8.9 cm.) high. Estimate £1,000 – £1,500 ($1,597 – $2,396). Price Realized  £3,750 ($5,989). © Christie’s Image Ltd 2014 The brush pot is moulded in the form of a bamboo stem and is decorated to the exterior with three bands of archaistic dragons. It is covered in an ochre wash and is painted with dark lines and small dots to simulate the natural fibres of bamboo. There is an apocryphal six-character Qianlong seal mark to the base.  ...
