Lot 69. 1968 Aston Martin DB6 Volante RHD. Estimation : 550 000 € / 750 000 €Photos © Bjorn Tiedemann © Artcurial.

Swedish title - Chassis n° DBVC/3688/R - Engine n° 400/3513

- Extremely rare (140 examples built)
- Matching numbers
- Dark blue interior in superb original condition

The DB6 is considered by many to be the last " true " Aston Martin. With an elegant design that first appeared on the DB4 by Touring in Milan, the styling evolved with the DB5, a model made famous by its starring role in James Bond films, and finally the DB6, the last line in this prestigious family.
The cabriolet version was initially proposed on the shorter DB5 chassis, but after 37 examples were built, the manufacturer began using the DB6 platform. Thus, the DB6 Volante first appeared in October 1966 at the London Motor Show, and this was the first time the name was used for Aston Martin's convertibles. The Volante was an elegant car, big enough to take four people, with a leather interior, plush carpets and comprehensively equipped dashboard. The hood was electrically operated. Only 140 examples of the DB6 Volante were produced, making it a very rare car.

The car on offer left the workshop on 8 May 1968 and was delivered on 31 May to a dealer in Scotland, Callander Garage Ltd, based in Callander. Presented in Mink, with a dark blue interior and matching carpets, it was equipped with a Borg-Warner automatic gearbox, power steering, chrome wire wheels with three-eared spinners, Motorola radio with electric aerial, two Sebring wing mirrors, front seatbelts and a pair of Marchal fog lamps.
We know very little about this Aston Martin's early years, but according to the V5 from 1982 that comes with the car, there were two owners between 1978 and 1982. In March 1983, it was acquired by Cord Automotive, Paradise Garage in Parson's Green, London, well known dealers at this time. According to a receipt in the file, Harry Leventis, the Ferrari and Aston collector known for his Aston Martin DBR1 and Ferrari 330 P3, sold this car on 5 October 1984 to a certain Mr D. Slightam. The car had the UK registration 369 YP3 at this time. Later, it was sold to the grandfather of the current owner, who registered it in Sweden on 4 April 1984.
Since that date, the car has been regularly maintained by an Aston Martin specialist in Gothenburg and more recently by the renowned AMK workshop in Stockholm. It was repainted its original metallic Mink colour at the start of the 2000s, having spent some time painted metallic grey. The paintwork is the only aspect of the car that is not original. The interior is completely original and in superb condition. The engine compartment presents extremely well, in line with a car that has been carefully maintained. It comes with its jack and toolkit. The original vinyl hood has a slight tear on one side. The Borg Warner automatic box is perfect for this car, according to a reputable British Aston dealer.
This is a rare and desirable Aston Martin cabriolet. Of the 140 examples made, how many were equipped with an automatic gearbox and power steering? Probably less than ten. In good running condition, accompanied by a recent Swedish MOT, this lovely Aston Martin DB6 Volante is ready to spend the summer on the Côte d'Azur.
