Note: Joris van Son, born in Antwerp in 1623, became a master at the age of 20 at the Luke Guild there. Which painter he received his first training, is not known. It is believed that before 1643 he was at least in contact with Jan Davidsz de Heem, whose style seems to derive his works. Like this he specialized in still lifes and covered a wide variety of genres. Thus vanitas and pageant still lifes are handed down from his hand, as are flower or fruit garlands around figurine cartridges.
