Il est représenté assis en sattvasana sur une base lotiforme placée sur trône. Sa main droite est en bhumisparshamudra. Sa main gauche repose sur sa cuisse. Il est vêtu d'unsamghati et de l'uttarasangha. Son visage est empreint de sérénité. Ses cheveux bouclés sont surmontés de l'ushnisha, socle.
Provenance: Acquired by the family of the present owner from Peng Seng, Bangkok, 27 October 1982 and thence by descent to the present owner.
The Oxford authentification sample n°N118c25 is consistent with our dating.
Note: This imposing bronze figure of Buddha Shakyamuni shows him in one of the most popular postures in Thailand, namely as the conquerer of the demon Mara or god of desire (maravijaya). His full and muscular body places this sacred image in the art school of northern Thailand. Most likely this bronze figure was created in the Chien Sen region in the Lan Na kingdom during the fifteenth century.
