Provenance: Acquired by the family of the present owner from Peng Seng, Bangkok, 27 October 1982 and thence by descent to the present owner.

The Oxford authentification sample n°N118c25 is consistent with our dating.

NoteThis imposing bronze figure of Buddha Shakyamuni shows him in one of the most popular postures in Thailand, namely as the conquerer of the demon Mara or god of desire (maravijaya). His full and muscular body places this sacred image in the art school of northern Thailand. Most likely this bronze figure was created in the Chien Sen region in the Lan Na kingdom during the fifteenth century.
