NEW YORK, NY.- The third edition of TEFAF New York Fall opened on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at the Park Avenue Armory, following a packed Preview on Friday, October 26. Museum-quality works attracted high-level interest and resulted in the attendance of major collectors and international institutions. Early sales at the Fair across a range of collecting categories had already taken place by the end of the Preview as conversations and commerce continue. 

Since its inception in 2016, TEFAF New York Fall has reinvigorated the conversation around historic art by presenting a unique platform in the U.S. -- coalescing a community of collectors, academics, art lovers, professionals and institutions. By translating its strict standards of quality and presentation established by its flagship event in Maastricht, TEFAF has quickly captured the imagination the art community in New York and beyond. The TEFAF Fairs in New York offer a glimpse into Maastricht and have introduced an important new audience to the storied TEFAF experience. 

This year’s Fair, which runs through Wednesday, October 31, features 93 of the world’s leading art and antiques dealers. New exhibitors include Antonacci Lapiccirella Fine Art, Galerie Cybele, Giacometti Old Master Paintings Srl, Sebastian Izzard LLC, Stephen Ongpin Fine Art and more. Sales were reported throughout the preview and opening day, from the opening moments until the floor closed at 8pm. 

Early sales highlights include: 

● Carlo Orsi-Trinity Fine Art (UK: Stand 337) sold Giuseppe Maria Mazza’s (1653-1741) Portrait of a Young Nobleman to a private collector for a seven figure asking price as well as Pseudo Caroselli’s A Sorceress with the Head of Medusa, the birth of Pegasus in the background.

This enamel is one of three executed by Bone after the 1775 portrait of the Duchess of Gordon by Sir Joshua Reynolds, P.R.A., in the collection of the Goodwood Trust. Bone's preparatory sketch is held by the National Portrait Gallery, London.

TEFAF New York Fall is accompanied by a dynamic roster of programs, including TEFAF New York’s “Coffee Talks” and “TEFAF Afternoons” series, panel discussions, receptions, and more. On opening day, Andrea Bayer from The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Christopher Apostle from Sotheby’s and collector, Jon Landau came together with moderator John Marciari, Charles W. Engelhard Curator and Head, Drawings and Prints, Morgan Library & Museum to discuss It’s Tintoretto’s 500th Birthday and We’re Still Celebrating. Later in the day, panelists from Courtauld Institute of Art, Sunderlande Art Agency and Peabody Essex Museum tackled Old Wine in New Bottles: How to Look at Indian Modern Art in a discussion moderated by Boon Hui Tan, Vice President, Director, Asia Society Museum. 

Notable attendees to the Fair have included collectors and philanthropists Henry and MarieJosée Kravis; fashion designer Mary McFadden; fashion designers Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen; actor Steve Martin; fashion designer Carolina Herrera and Reinaldo Herrera; architect Peter Marino; Denise LeFrak Calicchio; Jerry Lauren. Paul Getty Museum, LACMA, The National Trust (UK), Frick Collection, TEFAF New York Fall’s opening celebrations on Friday, October 26 also included The Society of Memorial Sloan Kettering’s third annual Opening Night Benefit, the proceeds of which will support The Society’s patient care, research, and education programs at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, as well as the acclaimed cultural programs produced by the Park Avenue Armory.
