The censer is decorated to the exterior with the Eight Immortals holding various attributes, with Shoulao seated on a rock holding a ruyi sceptre, all surrounded by pine trees and lingzhi sprigs within a fenced garden, below a band of bird and flower cartouches to the wasted neck. The vessel is supported on three animal mask-form feet.
Provenance: Collection of the late Soame Jenyns (1904-1976), then by descent within the family.
