the cinquefoil lobed cover finely carved to the top through the red and green layers with a large chun ('spring') character centred with a medallion enclosing Shoulao and rising above a bowl overflowing with auspicious emblems, reserved against red and green radiating waves, the rounded sides of the cover and box with a broad band of leafy fruiting peach, pomegranate and finger citron sprays, the interior and base lacquered black.
