The hollow figure is shown leaning on an outcropping of the rocks on which he sits. He wears layered robes of dark brown, iron red, yellow, green and cream color, and a thin wash of green glaze defines his hair. His face is set in a stern expression

Provenance: Ralph M. Chait Gallery, New York, no. 3553.
Anna Ilsley Ball Kneeland (1865-1955), New York, acquired 1918-1931, and thence by descent within the family.
