Although rarely encountered, blue diamonds are among the most famous, and most distinctive, and most rare of fine gemstones. Because of their great beauty and rarity, blue diamonds are both intriguing and highly valued. Such important historic diamonds such as the Hope Diamond, the Blue Heart Diamond (also called the Unzue or Eugénie Blue), and the Idol’s Eye Diamond have greatly added to the fascination and mystery surrounding blue diamonds throughout history.
The Premier mine in South Africa is now considered the most significant source for blue diamonds on the market. Since mining began at the Premier in 1903, 278 million tons of ore have been processed and 90.5 million carats of gem and industrial diamonds recovered. Blue diamonds account for less than 0.1% of all natural diamonds. From a past study of 462 blue diamonds by GIA, only 1 % can be graded as having a fancy vivid blue color. We are very proud to present this Fancy Vivid Blue diamond, , the highest possible color grading graded by the Gemological Institute of America(GIA), that is awarded to no more than 1% of blue diamonds submitted to the GIA. It was also found to have excellent polish and to be a Type IIb diamond, a rare category which represents less than 0.5 % of all diamonds. This diamond shows amazing brilliance and fire by reflecting and refracting the surrounding panorama of light to the viewer’s eye in a mosaic and artistic composition, full of vibrancy and vitality. This important gem will captivate all collectors of exceptional gemstones.
In recent years, auction sales have also placed fancy vivd blue diamonds in the forefront of industry interest. The current record per-carat price paid for a fancy vivid blue diamond at auction, $4,022,211, was set in November 2015, for a 12.03 carat Fancy Vivid blue cushion-shaped which sold at Geneva.
