ZEN IN JADE
Cicadas are a common subject for carving jadeites, representing pureness and good virtues since their intake are only dew and fluids from trees, residing on branches but not on the mud ground. The chirping sounds of cicadas are high pitched which are captivating and demanding the spotlight. Cicadas are also known as 'scholars' in Chinese which resembles a sense of contentment leading to happiness, bringing hope and motivation.
Jadeite has unique translucent characteristics, emitting a subtle glow unlike other gemstones. Meticulous craftsmanship is required during the sculpting process, in hope of carving a perfect outline and maximizing the distribution of light.
Lot 949 is of evenly-distributed emerald-green colour embellished with brilliant diamonds, flaunting its intrinsic qualities of top-graded tont and translucency. A masterpiece samples China's comprehensive knowledge in jadeite rough selection and sculpting techniques.
