of ovoid form, decorated with a register of wavy combing between horizontal bands, the shoulders set with a pair of loop handles, the inside of the rim and upper body covered with an olive-green glaze, Japanese wood box (4).

Provenance: Mayuyama & Co., Ltd, Tokyo, acquired between 1960-1969.

Note: A stoneware jar of similar form and decoration but of larger size, dated to the Han dynasty can be found in the Idemitsu Art Gallery illustrated in Chugoku ko-dai no bijitsu (Art of Ancient China), Tokyo, 1978, fig. 141.
