each cup delicately potted with steep sides rising to an everted rim, painted on the exterior with four striding lions, the interior with a single gilt-lion, jing zhi seal mark in underglaze blue within a square (2).
Provenance: A gift to the current owner (Edger Wachenheim III) from Robert West, New York.
Note: Mr. West bequeathed the major part of his collection to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in the 1950s.
