A blue and white Ming-style 'Lotus bouquet' dish, Yongzheng six-character mark and of the period (1723-1735)

Lot 951. A blue and white Ming-style 'Lotus bouquet' dish, Yongzheng six-character mark in underglaze blue within a double circle and of the period (1723-1735); 13¾ in. (34.8 cm.) diam. Estimate USD 18,000 - USD 25,000. Price realised USD 56,250. © Christie's Images Ltd 2014   

The dish is decorated in rich cobalt blue with a central ribbon-tied lotus plant bouquet incorporating saggitaria and a stalk of millet, below a narrow band of classic scroll at the rim, which is repeated on the exterior between borders of classic scroll and key fret

Provenance: Private collection, New York, acquired in the 1970s-80s.  

Note: A dish with the same motif and also painted in the Ming style, but of slightly smaller size (27.8 cm.), is illustrated in Treasures in the Royalty: The Official Kiln Porcelain of the Chinese Qing Dynasty, Shanghai, 2003, p. 122.
