Lion and sun motif set with rubies, emeralds and rock-crystal, the reverse undecorated

Literature: Jaffer 2013, p. 92, no. 6.

Note: The lion and sun motif is a heraldic symbol associated with the Safavid and Qajar rulers of Iran and alludes to a possible Shi'a patron. This jeweled plaque is thought to have been worn by Tipu Sultan.

For a gem set jade pendant belonging to Tipu Sultan in the sale, see lot 201.
