Lot 1254. A rare large straw-glazed pottery bottle vase, Sui dynasty (AD 581-618); 18½ in. (47 cm.) high. Estimate USD 40,000 - USD 60,000. Price realised USD 99,750. © Christie's Images Ltd 2013
The well-potted vase has an ample, ovoid body that tapers to the short neck below a cupped mouth with an everted rim. The vase is covered overall with a finely crackled, green-tinged, ivory-tone glazed that pools to a crystal-like green tone in the crevices of the interior of the mouth and falls short of the foot in thick drops to reveal the white pottery body, box.
Provenance: Sotheby's New York, 19 September 2002, lot 50.
