The dish has shallow rounded base and upturned sides, encircled on the exterior by a single incised line. The flat interior centre is deftly carved and combed with a bold design of turbulent waves, and covered overall with an attractive olive-green glaze suffused with fine crackles, stopping neatly in a circle around the unglazed, recessed centre of the base, exposing the grey body, Japanese fitted box.
Provenance: A Japanese private collection, purchased from Mayuyama, Tokyo, in the 1970s.
