The vase has an elegant pear-shaped body rising to a slender neck before a flared mouth. It is carved through the thick brown glaze to the buff-coloured body with a broad band of stylised leaves growing on an undulating stem and set below a similarly decorated smaller band on the lower neck.
Note: A comparable example of this stylised leaves pattern is illustrated in Mayuyama 70 Years, Tokyo, 1976, p. 199, no. 595.
The result of Oxford Authentication thermoluminescence test no. P206a76 is consistent with the dating of this lot.
