The exterior of each tri-lobed vessel is cast below the rim with a narrow band of scrolls that taper in a diagonal from a central "eye," all between two rows of circles, cloth boxes.
Provenance: Acquired in Hong Kong, 1991.
Note: These liding with their unusual decorative bands are similar to a liding of similar height (19.5 cm.) illustrated in Shang and Zhou Bronzes from Shaanxi Province, Beijing, 1979, p. 74, pl. 71. Similar bands can also be seen above and below a taotie band on the sides of a fangding illustrated by Bernhard Karlgren in "Marginalia on Some Bronze Albums," BMFEA, No. 32, Stockholm, 1960, PL. 44b.
