VIENNA.- Dorotheum’s upcoming major jewellery auction on 30 November 2020 offers an exceptional rarity – a ring by Bulgari with a type IIa diamond of 6.03 carats. This emerald-cut stone tops the colour grading scale (colour grade D - exceptional white) and flaunts VVS1 clarity - which means very, very small inclusions. Dorotheum experts estimate this ring by the Italian luxury jeweller with its rare diamond at 200,000 to 300,000 euros.

Only one to two percent of all natural diamonds are type IIa, by virtue of their chemical composition. They formed over long periods of time under extremely high pressure and show almost no impurities. Many of the famous large diamonds, such as Cullinan, Koh-i-Noor and Lesedi La Rona, are type IIa.

Top brands – Bulgari, Buccellati, Cartier
Precious materials, unique design and technical precision characterise the jewellery and watch production of the top brands. A pair of earclips by Buccellati is an example of such quality: a South Sea cultured pearl is framed with diamonds in the form of rays. The estimate for this piece of jewellery signed M. Buccellati is between 16,000 and 24,000 euros. A ring by Bulgari with a 5.62 ct ‘fancy light yellow natural colour’ diamond is valued at 70,000 to 110,000 euros. The sale also includes a pair of sapphire and brilliant earclips by Cartier. The special safety fastening on the clip was patented worldwide by Cartier in 1940 (€ 18,000 - 25,000). Another Bulgari ring with an untreated pink sapphire with 2.37 ct is valued at 18,000 to 30,000 euros.

The sale also offers pieces of jewellery from the first third of the 20th century. An art déco platinum bracelet with a total of c. 30 ct. old-cut brilliants and diamonds is expected to fetch between 26,000 and 40,000 euros. A pair of old-cut diamond earrings with a total of c. 8.50 ct has an estimate of 12,000 to 18,000 euros. Dating from around 1910/1920 is another pair of old-cut diamond ear pendants, with baroque oriental pearls measuring c. 7.8 cm in diameter (€ 8,000 - 12,000).

Rolex to feature prominently at watch auction on 27 November 2020
The auction of wristwatches and pocket watches on 27 November 2020 will feature a large number of Rolex models. One of them is the Datocompax ref. 4768 ‘Jean Claude Killy’ with chronograph in gold from around 1950. The watch is named after the former French ski racer, six-time world champion and three-time Olympic champion (€ 12,000 - 18,000). Because of its green bezel, the Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date Submariner is also dubbed ‘Kermit’ by collectors. It dates from around 2009 and has an estimate between 11,000 and 15,000 euros. In 2000, Rolex introduced the new chronometer movement calibre 4130. A 2002 Rolex Oyster Perpetual Daytona in gold featuring this calibre is also part of the sale with an estimate between 16,000 and 24,000 euros.

Some 150 watch models will be up for auction, including renowned brands such as Breitling, Glashütte, Heuer, IWC, Jaeger LeCoultre, Patek Philippe, Piaget and Tutimo.
