Lot 107. A large parcel-gilt-bronze figure of Guanyin, Ming dynasty (1368-1644); 15 in. (28 cm.) highEstimate GBP 30,000 - GBP 50,000. Price realised GBP 37,500. © Christie's Images Ltd 2020

The bodhisattva is finely cast seated in dhyanasana, the right hand raised before her and the left hand with palm upturned holding the flaming pearl. The bejewelled deity wears loose robes open at the chest to reveal a necklace, the hems of the robe are decorated with a floral scroll. The figure has a serene expression with downcast eyes and the hair is upswept into a top knot below a crown, long plaits cascading down each shoulder, carved hardwood stand.

Provenance: Private Dutch collection, amassed prior 1990.

Note: Compare a very similar parcel-gilt brone figure of Guanyin sold in our New York rooms, 16 September 2010, lot 1011.
