  LYON - Depuis la fin du 19e siècle, la plupart des objets africains visibles en Occident ont été dépouillés des accessoires, des tissus et des pigments qui les complétaient et leur donnaient un sens. Cette pratique consistait à débarrasser les statues de ce qui pourrait gêner la perception de leurs volumes.
