Hindman Auctions to present jewelry in February Palm Beach sale

 CHICAGO, IL.- Hindman’s Palm Beach Jewelry auction will take place on Tuesday, February 9 at 10am ET. The jewelry auction will feature 116 lots with vibrant statement jewelry from renowned designers such as Tony Duquette, Christopher Walling, Nicholas Varney, de Grisogono, Evelyn Clothier, and more. With a range of classic and distinct pieces, the sale is full of brightly hued jewelry for the bold collector. The sale will be the third annual jewelry auction in the firm’s Palm Beach saleroom.

Jewelry designed by legendary artist and designer Tony Duquette – known for his interiors, stage settings, costumes, jewelry, and more – will be among the standout pieces offered in the sale. Duquette’s trademark extravagant design style will be on full display, such as a magnificent moonstone and opal pendant/brooch (lot 116; estimate is $5,000-7,000). Another lively piece is a multigem and coral brooch with a blue fluorite at the center surrounded by green citrines (lot 115; estimate is $6,000-$8,000).

Containing one oval cabochon opal measuring approximately 25.00 x 19.00 mm surmounted with one oval cabochon moonstone and surrounded by 24 round and oval cabochon moonstones. Mounted in white gold. 2 1/4 x 2 inches. Stamp: TONY DUQUETTE 18K. 32.80 dwt.

Containing one cushion mixed cut blue fluorite measuring approximately 29.00 x 19.35 mm, six pear mixed cut citrines, 15 cushion mixed cut green fluorites and 17 round mixed cut citrines surmounted on eight pieces of petrified coral. Mounted in yellow gold. 5 1/2 x 4 3/4 inches. Stamp: TONY DUQUETTE 18K. 125.10 dwt.

The petrified coral is prehistoric and potentially from the Artic Sea.

A number of pieces by influential jewelry designer Christopher Walling will be offered in the auction, including a cultured biwa pearl, diamond, and sapphire bracelet (lot 96; estimate is $4,000-6,000). Additional pieces by Walling include a bright coral bead necklace and a cultured biwa pearl, blue chalcedony, and diamond brooch (lot 89 and lot 95; estimates are $2,500-3,500 and $1,500-2500 respectively).

Unsigned, containing six strands of coral beads measuring approximately 4.35-15.00 mm wide, strung knotted in a graduated style with three yellow gold spacer beads and ridged yellow gold clasp. 22 inches long. 259.65 dwt.

The sophisticated yet whimsical designs of Nicholas Varney will also be featured in the sale. One outstanding design in the sale is Varney’s abalone, diamond, colored diamond, and sapphire Bird of Paradise brooch (lot 114; estimate is $6,000-8,000). A multigem 'brick' bracelet is another striking piece that consists of three rows of links containing cultured biwa pearls surrounded by round brilliant cut diamonds and colored diamonds with an elongated opal for the clasp (lot 113; estimate is $6,000-8,000).

Containing freeform abalone, 70 round brilliant cut diamonds weighing approximately 0.35 carat total, 41 round brilliant cut yellow diamonds (origin of color not tested) weighing approximately 0.90 carat total and numerous round mixed cut yellow and blue sapphires and tsavorite garnets. Mounted in yellow gold and blackened sterling silver. 4 3/4 x 4 3/4 inches. Stamp: NICHOLAS VARNEY 18K S/S. 55.00 dwt.

Consisting of three rows of links containing cultured biwa pearls surrounded by round brilliant cut diamonds and colored diamonds (origin of color not tested), the clasp containing one freeform opal, 26 round brilliant cut diamonds and 16 round brilliant cut pink diamonds (origin of color not tested). Mounted in yellow gold and blackened sterling silver. 8 inches long. Engraved: N. VARNEY 18K S/S. 83.45 dwt.

The jewelry auction will be held amidst the celebration of Hindman’s 10th anniversary in Palm Beach, which we will continue to commemorate throughout the year.
