Note: This lively scene of female equestrian figures is reminiscent of the large verte-imari dishes depicting the female generals of the Yang family from the Northern Song dynasty (AD 960-1127), famed for their military prowess and loyalty to the Emperor, who avenge their husbands' deaths by taking up arms to protect China from northern invaders.
