Yaozhou ware from The Songde Tang Collection sold at Hong Kong, 3 december 2021

A very rare Yaozhou floral-form stem cup and cup stand, Five dynasties-Northern Song dynasty (907-1127)

The cup is potted with lobed sides rising to the rim of conforming form. The cup stand with a raised centre encircled by moulded lotus petals.

Provenance: A Japanese private collection.

The bowl is moulded on the interior with six peonies growing from scrolling and entwined branches. It is carved to the exterior with vertical lines representing overlapping petals, covered overall with a sea-green glaze with the exception of the foot ring.

The vase is sturdily potted with a straight cylindrical body rising from a slightly splayed foot, towards a small lipped mouth. It is covered overall in a glaze of brownish-black tone, except for the base and foot.

Provenance: A Japanese private collection, acquired in the 1990s.

The bowl is thinly potted with scalloped sides rising to a foliate rim, covered inside and out with a finely crackled glaze of a subtle green tone.

Provenance: An important Hong Kong family collection, acquired in the 1980s.
